Black Cherry Tree
Prunus seratina
A deciduous tree or shrub of the genus Prunus.
A medium-sized, fast-growing forest tree growing to a height of 50–80 ft
Produces delicate lace-like flower blossoms in the summer. It bears a non-sweet berry looking fruit.
Leaves are 2–5 in (5–13 cm) long, ovate-lanceolate in shape, with finely toothed margins. Fall leaf color is yellow to red.
The bark of the Black Cherry separates into square shaped scales, with prominent lenticels present.
Fun fact: Black cherry's wood is considered very valuable for its color; it is used for furniture, instruments, paneling, toys and handles.
