Native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, this tree grows from 13-39 feet (4-12 meters) often forming a crown of branches and leaves.

  • Crab apple tree requires lots of sun exposure, good air circulation, and moist, well-drained soil for best results, but can still grow in poor conditions 

  • The leaves are 1.25-4 inches long. Flowers bloom in bunches of five pink, red, or white.

  • Requires cross-pollination in order to bear fruit. The crab apples tend to be smaller, sharper in flavor, and have more seeds than apples and rainberries of the Rosaceae plant family. 

  • Vincent’s Forester Fun Fact: Crab apple wood is widely used for smoking foods due to its pleasant aroma and is perfect if you don’t want an overpowering smoky flavor. In addition, the crab fruit has medicinal properties that could be used to treat indigestion and gout.
